 MedCare Resources for Parents
At MedCare, we believe in providing more to our families than just clinical treatment. We feel that educating and uniting families is one of the most powerful resources we can offer. Below is a listing of just some of our programs which provide support and growth for families and children with special needs throughout our community.
Respite Night/Parents Night Out: A free service provided by MedCare Milestones, a non-profit organization committed to helping children with special needs. Respite is offered once per month on a Friday night to give parents of children with special needs the chance to get some much-needed time away to catch a movie, run errands, or even a special date!  Love & Logic: A course offered throughout the year by our own certified staff to teach parents real-life techniques for parenting children ages birth – 6 years old in a respectful, loving environment. The course covers topics including how to handle temper tantrums, bed-time issues, and teaching children responsibility. Upcoming courses can be found on our Events Calendar.
English Language Courses: For those of our parents and caregivers who wish to learn English, we offer basic courses free of charge throughout the year to help bridge the communication gap between parents and providers.
Parent Education: Throughout the year, we offer free seminars to parents of children with special needs on such topics as finding resources and support groups, the transition from pediatric to adult care, parenting skills and more. Upcoming classes can be found on our Events Calendar.
Family Counseling Services: With the help of our on-staff Social Worker, we are pleased to offer our clients and their parents counseling to assist with behavioral issues and to build stronger parent/child relationships. Through the use of play therapy, children are able to build self esteem, increase social skills and express their emotions.
 Free Transportation Services: MedCare believes in removing as many obstacles as possible from children receiving the services they need. Therefore, we offer free transportation to and from all of our outpatient rehab centers for children in need. Our buses are fully equipped with all the latest technology including an entertainment system for the kids to watch movies, and are staffed with professionally-trained drivers and attendants. All buses are ADA-accessible and decorated in a fun and inviting underwater theme.
MedCare Resources for Staff
Spanish Courses: Through a partnership with the University of Houston, MedCare offers on-site Spanish courses weekly as a benefit to our staff. Employees can learn the language and earn valuable CEU credits in the process. For a list of upcoming classes, visit our Events Calendar.
Sign Language Classes: In order to help our staff provide more effective treatment for their clients, we offer Sign Language Classes on site for those staff that are interested.
Professional Growth Seminars: In support of our staff development, MedCare offers extensive on and off-site seminars free of charge to all full time employees. Topics range from Organizational Skills, Public Speaking, Self Defense and a wide variety of clinical presentations for OTs, PTs, SLPs and Nurses.
